The Advertisement Regulatory Council of Nigeria( ARCON) has dissociated itself from the ” All Eyes on the Judiciary Advertisement currently running on Billboards across the country.

The director of the regulatory agency Olalekan Fadolapo while reacting to the controversial Advertisement issued a press statement where he took a swipe at the Advertising Standards panel for giving the approval.

He explained that the Advertising Standards Panel erred by approving a concept that failed to comply with the vetting guidelines of the commission as the main theme in the advert is currently before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal now waiting for final pronouncement on the subject matter before it.

He directed that the material in the billboards be pulled down while the perpetrators sanctioned for their action as the article is capable of instigating public unrest and breach of public peace.

The ARCON DG who described the Advertisement as Controversial says it was targeted at ridiculing the Judiciary as well as members of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal before members of the public.

The Director General, ARCON dissolved the Advertising Standards Panel for failing to act as a gatekeeper of Advertising and marketing communications.

On the other hand ARCON he further stated will constitute a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the erroneous approval of one of the concepts of the inappropriate advert and the breach of vetting guidelines.

Meanwhile, he has announced the suspension of the Director and deputy director, regulations to enable the commission carry out further investigations into the matter.
