Arsenal and France Defender, William Saliba

Arsenal defender William Saliba has pulled out from the France squad ahead of the upcoming international break due to a toe injury.

Saliba was outstanding for Arsenal who defeated champions Manchester City 1-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.

The 22-year-old marked Erling Haaland out of the game to help Arsenal record a first Premier League win against Pep Guardiola.

However, according to standard.co.uk, it was announced shortly after the match that Saliba will not join up with the French squad as planned.

He has since been replaced by OGC Nice player Jean-Clair Todibo.

Saliba was expected to be involved as France prepare to face the Netherlands on Friday night in a Euro 2024 qualifier, before they host Scotland in a friendly four days later.

Saliba is now the second Arsenal player to pull out of international duty, after Mikel Arteta confirmed Bukayo Saka will miss England’s matches against Australia and Italy.

Arteta will hope to have both Saka and Saliba back when club football resumes in two weeks time as the Gunners face two crucial matches away from home.

First, they will travel to face Chelsea in the Premier League before they will take on Sevilla in Spain on match day three of the UEFA Champions League.
