The Cross River State Government has launched an investigation into allegations of illegal land encroachment and unauthorized auctioning of assets at the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS.
During an inspection of the institution, Governor Bassey Otu reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability, warning that those responsible for the alleged infractions will face legal action.
The Cross River State Government is taking decisive action to protect public assets, following allegations of unauthorized land encroachment and unlawful auctioning of properties at the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the campus, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Assets Management and Recovery, Gilbert Agbor, who represented the governor, stated that the state will recover all illegally acquired assets.
The Economic Adviser to the Governor, Peter Oti, called for a comprehensive inventory of all the institution’s assets, warning that the mismanagement of the institution’s properties negatively impacts the state’s economy and the university’s development.

The controversial auction, which reportedly took place between May and August 2024, involved the sale of hundreds of items, raising concerns about potential violations of procurement laws.
With investigations now underway, the state government is sending a strong message that public assets must be protected and managed transparently, as stakeholders await the probe’s findings and the government’s next course of action.
