Academic activities at the Ebonyi State University Abakaliki in South-East Nigeria have been suspended following the ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU in the institution.
The lectures are demanding for improved working conditions at the University among others.
The leadership of the Union says the on-going strike was to draw the attention of the university management to the poor working conditions of service at the institution.
The lectures alleged that all efforts to dialogue with the university authorities over their plight have failed.
When AIT visited the university’s campus in Abakaliki no student was seen around the premises while some of the departments were under lock and key.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Government in a statement in Abakaliki has appealed to the lecturers to suspend the strike and go back to work for the interest of the State.
