A splinter group of the Academic Staff of universities, the Congress of University Academics, CONUA, has described as unnecessary the over Six months old strike by members of the Academic Staff union of universities, ASUU .
While insisting that it is unfair to withhold CONUA members salaries, since they are not involved in strike, the group throws its weight behind the education minister’s call on students to sue ASUU.
Even though this group is yet to be fully recognised under the trade union laws of Nigeria, it kicks against the action by fellow university lecturers, while profering some solutions to end industrial actions.

Some vice chancellors have also come under attacks from this lecturers.
According to this group, since 2018 it has grown its membership In eight Federal and two state universities.
The Academic Staff union of universities, ASUU embarked on strike February 14 to push for the renegotiation of 2009 agreements and adoption of University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS in place of Integrated patrol and personnel information system, IPPIS, among other requests.
