The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has warned that if the Federal Government fails to implement their agreement before the weekend, the National Executive Council of the Union will have no option than to call for a strike action.
Chairman of the local chapter of the Union, Chike Ugwuene who issued the threat while addressing Journalists at the end of an emergency meeting, accused the Nigerian Federal authorities of refusing to implement the 2009 agreement.
Ugwuene regrets that for the past thirteen years, Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities have been earning the same salary without a review.

The University teachers are wondering why the visitation panels sent to Federal Universities have not presented their reports for implementation.
The ASUU leadership has expressed displeasure over a situation where Universities of Agriculture in the country are currently operating without Governing Councils, noting that such has negatively affected administration of the institutions.
The union observed that given the situation on ground, infrastructure in Federal Universities have crumbled, especially the students hostels.
