The Nigerian government says it recovered over N3.2 billion stolen money from different jurisdictions globally between March 2021 and May 2022.
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said this in Abuja at the 46th State House Briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team.
Malami said the Federal Government also generated N1.82 billion from the sale of bid forms and actual sale of forfeited properties in the first 18 months of the Buhari-led administration.
He said the recovered foreign loot has been disbursed to fund key infrastructure projects nationwide including the Second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano Road and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Attorney general also explained that the Justice Ministry has supported the Federal Government in various infrastructure funding agreements, but lamented that the country currently grapples with a N329bn funding gap.
He said an inter-ministerial committee on the audit and recovery of outstanding stamp duties has so far recovered N596,055,479.47.
Malami also confirmed the Buhari-led government secured over 1000 convictions on terrorism related cases within its first 18 months with convictions also secured for 312 other criminal cases within that period.

He said the Ministry is coordinating the next phase of terrorism related trials in collaboration with the Federal High Court, the Legal Aid Council, and Defence Headquarters.
The Attorney general also explained that the Ministry of Justice successfully processed over 350 Mutual Legal Assistance and 50 extradition requests including extradition proceedings against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari from the United States of America.
