The release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon has been a source of nightmare for many Nigerians as riverine communities are hit by floods.
Anambra State has become one of the states affected by the flood with residents lamenting the damages caused by the disaster.
Anambra East and West, Ogbaru and Ayamelum are the local governments in Anambra State worst hit by the disaster.
Osita Ofozo is a resident of Mmiata village in Anam, Anambra West LGA who survives mainly on farming. He is a pastor of a pentecostal church in his community where their place of worship has been submerged by the flood.
Churches are not the only facilities affected by the flood. Schools, hospitals and residential houses and even the Anambra East LG Secretariat have all been submerged by the flood.
When AIT.live visited the area the people could only access their villages on boats and canoes.
The residents confirmed being warned of the impending disaster by the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, but said no further efforts have been made to evacuate them.
They want the government to come to their rescue as they have lost all their properties and sources of livelihood to the flood
CUE OUT: Efforts made to reach SEMA and other necessary agencies proved abortive.
