Suspected terrorists have launched an attack on Bungudu town, the Headquarters of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, killing one person and abducting seven others in the early hours of Monday.

A resident of the town, Mohammed Bungudu, told ait.live that the suspected terrorists invaded Bungudu town at about 1 a.m. and started firing sporadically thereby killing one person.

He said among the seven other people who were abducted included the son of the Emir of Bungudu, identified as Abdulrahman Hassan, as well as the former State Programme Officer of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, (IFAD), Abubakar Fada.

Mohammed Bungudu lamented that the town which is about twenty kilometres from Gusau, the state capital, couldn’t get help as terrorists operated in the town for several hours without the intervention of any security operatives.

He observed that the present administration is not doing enough to address the constant attacks in Zamfara State in general and Bungudu LGA in particular, which has come under attack virtually every day, despite its proximity to the state capital.

Mohammed Bungudu blamed the situation on the delay in the appointment of a Security Adviser to coordinate the ongoing war against terrorists.

He further attributed the constant attacks on Bungudu LGA to terrorists’ hideouts in a boundary between Maradun and Bungudu, around Karaye and Karakai along Nahuche communities, where the security operatives have not taken the fight to.

It could be recalled that four Policemen were killed last month in the same Local Council while they were carrying out their duties, and after a week, the terrorists returned to attack a Police Station and killed a policeman.

Efforts to get the Zamfara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Yazid Abubakar, to confirm the incident were not successful, as he was not responding to telephone calls.
