The federal government has rescinded its decision to withdraw Nigeria from international basketball competitions barely a month after it made the pronouncement.
On may 12 the minister of sports Sunday dare announced the withdrawal of the country from international competitions following protracted leadership crisis in the Nigeria basketball federation, NBBF
In a release dated July 23rd 2022 and signed by the permanent secretary, federal ministry of youths and sports development, Ismail Abubakar Nigeria is to return to international basketball but with a caveat that the country’s law takes precedence over that of any affiliate international sports organization.
The statement affirmed that president Buhari has directed the ministry to implement certain undertakings by the the Nigeria basketball federation and report its progress.
Top among the undertaking is for the NBBF to immediately set in motion the process for statues review and constitution amendment as collated by the ministry of sports also to reconcile contending parties in the NBBF election as well as the commitment of the NBBF to work harmoniously with the federal ministry of sports.
The release suggested that the Musa Kida led B board sent an appeal to the federal government apologizing to president Buhari and the minister of sports for the embarrassment the leadership tussle has caused the country.
