In a bid to decongest custodian centres across the state, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has granted executive pardon to ninty six inmates through the state’s Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.
Governor Bala Mohammed enjoined the pardoned inmates to take advantage of the knowledge and skills acquired during their stay in the correctional centres, to enable them become self-reliant in society.
Governor Bala Mohammed said the gesture is aimed at decongesting the correctional centres across the state, and to financially assist those with minor offences who cannot afford to pay their fines.

Governor Bala Mohammed said his administration is also committed to ensuring speedy dispensation of justice, adding that his government has since granted approval for an upward review of prosecution fees for the Ministry of Justice, for effective service delivery.
The released inmates were supported with one hundred thousand Naira each as they go back to their respective communities.
According to the governor, “an idle mind is a devil’s workshop.”
