The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of seven persons following a violent farmers-herders clash in Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the Command received a distress report on Thursday, 4th June 2026, indicating that suspected Fulani herders attacked farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farmland at the outskirts of Lanzai Community.

The statement explained that in a reprisal attack, youths from Lanzai Community allegedly mobilized and invaded Dosho Village, a Fulani settlement, where they set ablaze about 50 huts and destroyed several household properties.

The police said the incident claimed seven lives, while six other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

The clash also caused extensive damage to residential buildings and personal belongings.

Following the outbreak of violence, tactical police operatives were deployed to the affected communities to restore law and order and prevent further escalation. The Command also deployed the Violent Crime Response Unit as reinforcement, while security patrols have been intensified in Lanzai, Dosho, and surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident. He assured that all those involved in both the initial attack and the subsequent reprisal would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Police Commissioner further appealed to community leaders and residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring lasting peace in the area.
