Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has urged the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to take decisive action against illegal mining across the state.

The Governor said nobody should be spared, regardless of status or relationship, if found engaging in illegal activity.

He made the plea while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Maxwell Dangana, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.

As part of his maiden operational tour of military formations under the 3 Division, Major General Maxwell Dangana said the visit was aimed at reviewing ongoing security operations, assessing existing strategies, and strengthening the security architecture across states under the Division’s area of responsibility to ensure lasting peace and stability.

Receiving the delegation, Governor Bala Mohammed commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in tackling insecurity, particularly in parts of Alkaleri Local Government Area.

The Governor described illegal mining as a major driver of insecurity and criminal activities, urging the military and other security agencies to intensify operations against those involved.

He stressed that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law.

Governor Bala Mohammed also assured the GOC of the state’s continued support in the fight against insecurity, stating that the Federal Government’s 3 billion naira security intervention fund would be prudently utilised to strengthen security operations and enhance logistics in vulnerable communities.

The Governor further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
