Bauchi Command NSCDC Arrests Suspects for Illegal Mining, Electric Cable Vandalism

The Bauchi state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, said it has apprehended twenty eight (28) illegal miners and one for vandalization and theft of armoured Electricity Cables.

This is contained in a statement released by the Command Public Relations Officer Saminu Yusuf.

According to the statement, the suspected illegal miners were arrested following a report received by the Command about an ongoing illegal mining around Waya Dam and environs under the management of Upper Benue River Basin Authority which is affecting the Dam Project causing erosion, and land encroachment, as well resulting to insecurity in the area.

The statement says upon receiving the report the Personnel swung into action under the directives of the state Commandant Oloyede Oyerinde and arrested the suspects with their tools.

In a related development, the statement said, in line with the mandate of the Corps, another suspect was arrested by the Personnels for vandalization and theft of Electricity armoured cable at Tafawa Balewa Tomb.

According to the statement, during the preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to have commited the crimes, and will be prosecuted accordingly.
