Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Slyvester Alabi, has assured the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Bauchi State Chapter of his command’s commitment to fish out and deal with the police personnel who brutalised AIT Reporter, Damina Yusuf who was covering a students’ protest.
CP Sylvester Alabi gave the assurance after a meeting with the state’s Working Committee of the NUJ, at the Press Centre in Bauchi.
The Bauchi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, had earlier scheduled a peaceful protest against police brutality on journalists in the state before the protest was canceled, after a meeting with the National Secretary of the NUJ, as well as the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sylvester Alabi.
CP Alabi condemned the unprofessional conduct of the Rapid Response Team during his visit to the NUJ secretariat and promised not to sweep the matter under the carpet.

The National Secretary of the NUJ, Shuaibu Leman, called on the police and other security agents to give maximum protection to journalists as stakeholders in championing the fight against crime and criminality in the society, instead of maltreating them.
The issue of boycotting the coverage of police activities still stands, until the state council issues a statement in that regard.
