The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun, says the duty of the Police is to be neutral and ensure that a peaceful and credible governorship election in Bayelsa state is achieved and the police are committed to it without favoritism.
IGP Olukayode gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, Douye Diri at the government house, Yenagoa.
The off-cycle election is less than five days away.
Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police was in Bayelsa to assess the security position of the state and also to meet with stakeholders.
He paid a visit to the Governor at the Creek Haven, assuring the Governor and the people a level playing field.
The Governor was hopeful that the visit of the IGP will restore the confidence of the people and add to the security architecture of the state.
This is the first time the IGP will be visiting the state since his appointment as the country’s 22 indigenous Inspector General of Police.
