Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has taken steps to halt the sudden hike in the prices of food commodities and petroleum products in the state just as he has set up two committees that would monitor the prices of commodities in the state.

Governor Douye Diri, at separate meetings with petroleum regulatory bodies and dealers as well as market union leaders in government house, Yenagoa warned that the state will not hesitate to invoke extant laws that prohibit the exploitation of consumers on those who refused to heed the warning.

The twin meetings of the Market Union Leaders, the state chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Petroleum Owners Association Of Nigeria at the instance of the Bayelsa state Governor is to address the erratic increase in the prices of premium motor spirit and food items in the state.

In another development, the governor at the week’s executive council meeting, also urged those handling the distribution of relief materials for flood victims not to undermine government’s efforts to ease the sufferings of the people.

For now, about 300 communities have been majorly impacted by the flood and there are no signs yet of the waters abating any time soon.
