Bayelsa state

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has approved the extension of the retirement age and years of service for health workers from 60 to 65 years and from 35 to 40 years respectively.

The Governor also approved the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, revised earned allowances, and the implementation of the 2025 promotion arrears for staff of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital.

Governor Diri, represented by his Deputy, Peter Pereotubo Akpe, disclosed the new welfare package during an enlarged meeting with labour leaders, representatives of affiliate unions and government officials at the Government House, Yenagoa.

The State Government is further strengthening its partnership with the organised labour through a fresh package of welfare initiatives aimed at improving workers’ productivity and well-being.

The Deputy Governor unveils a series of approvals covering workers in the mainstream civil service, Local government, education and health sectors.

He urges organised labour to sustain its cordial relationship with government by continuing to support policies and programmes geared towards the development of the State.

Among the approvals are uniform allowances for primary healthcare workers and nurses, promotion and step increment arrears, specialist allowances for doctors on CONMESS 5, as well as the implementation of gratuities and pensions for Environmental Sanitation workers on the CONHESS salary structure, alongside other welfare packages.
