Former Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has been appointed the Coach of the Benin Republic national team, The Squirrels.
The decision to name Rohr as the new coach was arrived at during Tuesday’s Executive Committee Meeting of the Benin Football Federation in Porto Novo.
Rohr will take over from former Benin International, Moussa Latoundji, who has been in temporary charge of the Squirrels since last year.
Benin is the 5th African nation Rohr is handling, after Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.
Rohr is expected to resume his role on February 21st, 2023.

Rohr’s immediate assignment will be to qualify the Squirrels for the 2023 African Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.
His first match is the tournament qualifier against Rwanda on March 20.
Benin is bottom of Group L, after losing their opening two games against Senegal and Mozambique.
Recall that the 69-year-old was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in December 2021, despite guiding the Super Eagles to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, and the playoff round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
