The Benue State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed members of the Benue State Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
Those confirmed are the Chairman, John Chen, Theodore Iordye Uchi- Member, Solomon Aikighe Deva- Member, Edache Isaac- Member, Gloria Clement- Member, Peter Baba Ogagbolo-Member.
The screening began on Thursday the 21st March 2024 with two members screened, Vincent Gisaor and Terhemen Shom while Terhemen Shom got confirmation, Gisaor Vincent who was nominated for the post of the commission secretary was rejected for issues bothering on his post insulting the Tiv people on Facebook.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker Akume Raphael indicates that, the house later received an apology letter from Gisaor Vincent which was read by the majority leader, Honorable Saater Tiseer over his Facebook post where he reportedly insulted the Tiv tribe.
Gisaor said his outburst was because of the perrenial communal crisis at Tyu-mu.
He therefore pleaded for pardon from the Honorable members and those who felt pained by his actions.
The House has requested the Executive Governor of Benue state, Hyacinth Alia to send another nominee to fill the post of secretary of the commission.
The house adjourned for Easter break to resume on Thursday the 9th of April, 2024.
