As part of measures to boost food production and ensure food security in the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has flagged off the distribution of improved seeds to 23 local government areas in State.
The Governor also directed that seminars should be organized for farmers to enlighten them on how best to cultivate the improved seeds for maximum results.
Benue State whose main stay is agriculture and known as the food basket of the nation, is confronted with incessant attacks by terrorists which threatens its food security.
As part of measures to reverse this worrisome trend, the State Government launched this annual intervention which seeks to provide improved seedings to farmers.

Earlier, the special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Kenneth Achabo expressed satisfaction by its impact in the past 2 years.
The initiative if effectively utilized, is expected to boost crop production that could restore the agricultural fortunes of the nation’s food basket.
