The Benue State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that the High-Level Underpass in Makurdi has been condemned, describing the issue as a quality-control matter involving finishing works.

The clarification follows reports circulating on social media questioning the quality and execution of the project.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Solomon Iorpev in a statement said a routine technical inspection by the Ministry of Works identified some finishing works that did not meet specifications in the approved project plan.

He says the identified lapses do not affect the structural integrity or safety of the underpass.

According to the Commissioner, the contractor, Bauhaus Construction Company, has been directed to correct the defects at its own cost.

The government says the remediation will therefore, impose no additional financial burden on the state.

It describes the intervention as part of its quality-assurance process, stressing that contractors are expected to correct work that falls short of approved specifications.

The High-Level Underpass and Interchange is one of the major infrastructure projects of the Hyacinth Alia administration, aimed at improving traffic flow around the High-Level area of Makurdi.

The government says the project forms part of broader ongoing road and transport infrastructure development across the state.

It has urged the public to rely on verified information from relevant government ministries regarding the project’s progress.

The state government says it remains committed to ensuring that infrastructure projects meet approved technical standards before completion.
