Construction of a township stadium in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria is to finally begin 26 years after the council was created by the military administration of late Head of State, General Sanni Abacha.
Chairman of the Council, Aondoaver Ade Nguhar gave the cheering news at the kick-off of the Anniversary Cup competition sponsored by an indigene of the area and Abuja-based development journalist, Terverr Tyav Aboh.

The Chairman was represented by the Council Secretary, Ander Tayol in company of the Supervisory Councillor for Education, Youths and Sports, Terlumun Mbailiv and the Special Adviser on Security, Tyolumun Ushi.
He said the competition which is in its second year has challenged the Council authorities to begin construction of the perimetre fence of the Township Stadium without any further delay.
Eleven teams across the 10 council wards of the Local Government are participating in the month-long tournament. The finals is scheduled for Thursday, December 8 which is the day the Local Government was created in 1996.
In the opening match, winners of the Silver Jubilee Cup and defending champions of the competition now known as Anniversary Cup, City Boys of Wannune defeated Ankunguyol FC of Asukunya six-nil.
A minute silence was observed before the commencement of the second half in honour of the two traditional rulers who recently died in the Local Government including second class chief and District Head of Shitile, Sebastine Tarza Hule
The 28 matches of the tournament are being played at the LGEA Central Primary School Wannune with the finals to however hold at the Mbakor Community Secondary School also in Wannune which is the Local Government headquarters.
With the expected construction of the Township Stadium which has been on the drawing table for over 20 years, future editions of the tournament will most likely have a standard football pitch for young talents to develop and showcase their skills
