Nigerian female singer and the “Try Me, Higher” crooner, Tems has won the Best International Act Award at the 2022 Black Entertainment Television Awards, BET to become the first female Nigerian Afrobeat music act to win the category.
Tems emerged winner slugging it out in the same category with Nigeria’s Fireboy DML; French music stars, Tayc and Dinos; Brazilian singer, Ludmilla; British singers, Dave and Little Simz; Congolese singer, Fally Ipupa; and South African music act, Major League Djz.
Tems also won in the Best Collaboration category for the song “Essence” by multiple award winning star Wizkid featuring Canadian singer, Justin Bieber.
She has dedicated the awards to Africa, Nigeria and to all young women striving to achieve their set goals.
The annual BET Awards established in 2001 to celebrate African Americans in the area of music, acting, sports and other fields of entertainment was held on Sunday at the Microsoft Theatre Los Angeles California in the United States.
