United Nigeria Airlines has withdrawn a second aircraft from service within 24 hours following another bird strike involving one of its Airbus A320-200 aircraft.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, when Flight UN0515 from Port Harcourt encountered a bird during landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 15:45 hours, resulting in damage to the aircraft’s nose section.

The airline says the aircraft was immediately taken out of operation to allow for comprehensive technical inspection and necessary maintenance, in line with established safety procedures.

This development comes barely a day after a CRJ-900 aircraft was also grounded due to a separate bird strike, bringing to two the number of affected aircraft within a short period.

United Nigeria Airlines has expressed concern over the rising frequency of such incidents, revealing that it has recorded six bird strikes since the beginning of 2026, a trend it described as worrisome for flight operations and safety.

The airline has advised passengers to verify their flight schedules ahead of travel, as adjustments are being made to mitigate disruptions caused by the temporary reduction in fleet availability.
