Blinken Commends Nigeria for Positive transformation in Disease Control

The U.S Secretary Of State Antony Blinken has Commended Nigeria for the Positive transformation in research and capacity Development towards Disease Control by taking advantage of Partnership with the United States through the President’s Emergency Plan For Aids Relief ( PEPFAR)

Blinken Who was Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Institute of Medical research ( NIMR) said with PEPFAR support through USAID the institute has been able to provide Comprehensive HIV treatment to over Five thousand, four hundred adults, one hundred Children and also Processed nearly two hundred and Sixty thousand HIV Viral load samples in the last one year

The NIMR PEPFAR supported mega Polymerase chain reaction preference laboratory has also been essential for Hepatitis B and Human Papillomavirus care.

The Nigerian Institute of Medical research (NIMR) was one of the four US PEPFAR supported laboratories leveraged for the covid-19 pandemic response between 2020 to 2021

Through PEPFAR, the US Government has invested more than 100 billion dollars in the global Fight against HIV/Aids and almost eight point three billion in Nigeria.
