According to the Nigerian Army, Seven Boko Haram insurgents have been killed by their own improvised explosive device, IED. Eight others suffered severe injuries.
A statement by the Army’s Media Coordinator, Colonel Aminu Illiyasu, said the incident is fallout of the intensification of Troops Operations in the northeast.
The statement said that Boko Haram terrorists, who were escaping the Nigerian military, met their waterloo as one of their vehicles, a Toyota Sam Sahara Model, ran over an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, laid by them against the troops at Lamba’a Forest along Jakana – Mainok Road in Borno State.
“The self-inflicted destruction consumed seven Boko Haram criminals while eight others suffered severe injuries. Consequently, troops have being mobilised to the general area for route clearance and mop-up operation,” the statement read.
In another development, a syndicate that specializes in the smuggling of smoked fish from the Lake Chad region for sale in some parts of Nigeria has been busted by the troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
There are indications that Boko Haram insurgents, Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, and their collaborators are using the fish business to finance and sustain their heinous activities.
The proceeds are believed to be channelled into the procurement of foodstuff, groceries, drugs, toiletries, vehicle spare parts, and other items for the sustenance of their criminal activities.
