Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has ordered for the construction of a community outreach office that would serve as Governor’s Lodge in Auno town that has repeatedly been attacked by Boko Haram terrorists.

Auno is a town located along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway where over 30 passengers held up by curfew hours were burnt to death in an attack by terrorists in February this year.

Zulum says the office would attract increased security and rebuild public confidence and encourage those who have left the town to return home.

The Governor promised to use the office from time to time when completed.
He currently operates two offices. One is at the Government House  while the other is at the state’s secretariat.

Professor Zulum gave the directive for the construction of the office during an assessment tour of ongoing projects in Auno.

Among the projects the Governor assessed include two 500 housing units, one in Auno and the other in neighbouring Njimtilo, for internally displaced persons, IDPs.

Both projects are located along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway.

Many of the residents have fled the town to the state capital Maiduguri, as a result of the series of attacks on the town.

Auno is an agrarian community, and with the rainning season setting in, people need to go back to their farmlands.

Meanwhile, the Governor has appealed to the Nigerian Army to relocate their formation to Auno Secondary School, which is ahead of the town.

He says, that would make the residents feel safer.

The Governor has also called on the Borno State Police Command to increase police presence in the town, in order to strengthen civil authority.
