Breaking: Court sentences Senator and Governorship candidate to 42 years in prison

The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria has sentenced the Chairman, of Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream and Akwa Ibom State Young Progressives Party Governorship candidate, Bassey Akpan to 42 years in prison for corruption.

Senator Akpan was upon conviction taken to Ikot Ekpene Custodial Centre in Akwa Ibom State, to serve his 42-year jail term following his successful prosecution by EFCC on corruption charges.

Akpan was convicted for receiving bribes of 12 cars worth N254 million from an oil marketer, Olajidee Omokore, during his tenure as Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance between 2010 and 2014
