Hours after an order of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, the Department of State Services, DSS says it has charged the former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele to court more than one month after he was arrested on June 10.
The order granted by Justice Hamza Muazu was in a suit of fundamental human rights enforcement instituted against the DSS and others by Emefiele.
The Service had, in 2022, applied for an order to arrest and detain Emefiele in respect of criminal investigation bordering on financing of terrorism which was rejected by the Federal High Court.
Although Emefiele obtained a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the Service went ahead to arrest him in June after he was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu on the strength of suspected fresh criminal infractions, one of which forms the basis for his current prosecution.
