Public servants across Nigeria have been directed to begin a three day warning strike from midnight on Friday, October 2, following the Federal Government’s failure to meet demands on petrol prices, workers’ wages and negotiations for a new national minimum wage.
The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, JNPSNC, directed workers in federal, state and local governments to join the industrial action, which will run until Sunday, October 4.
The directive is contained in a circular signed by the National Secretary of the Council, Gbenga Olowoyo, and addressed to national presidents, general secretaries and state leaders of its affiliate unions.
The Council said the action followed the expiration of its September 30 deadline to the Federal Government over demands contained in a letter sent to President Bola Tinubu on September 21.

The workers are demanding a reduction in the pump price of petrol to 500 naira per litre, an immediate wage award and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage expected to take effect in 2027.
The Council said workers and their dependants were facing increasing economic hardship and directed its structures across the country to mobilise members for the warning strike.
The JNPSNC comprises eight public sector unions, including the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Medical and Health Workers Union, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria and National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives.
