Buckingham Palace has announced the death of the British monarch and head of the Commonwealth of Nations, Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.
The long-reigning monarch was on the throne for 70 years. She died at Balmoral Castle, which is her beloved summer home in the Scottish Highlands.
Many of her four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were at Balmoral Castle or on their way there, including her son Prince Charles, who is the heir to the throne.

Queen Elizabeth II whose full name was Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was reportedly placed under medical supervision on Thursday following concerns over her health
She cancelled her Privy Council meeting on Thursday with her last official function being appointment of Liz Truss as UK Prime Minister on Wednesday
