United Nigeria Airlines Chief Pilot, Captain Joan Obasi, has been named Female Pilot of the Year at the 15th Nigeria Aviation Awards and Ministerial Dinner held in Lagos.

The ceremony, held at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, brought together key stakeholders in the aviation industry to celebrate excellence and contributions to flight safety.

Captain Obasi, who leads flight operations at United Nigeria Airlines, was recognised for her technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to safety, overseeing flight standards, crew training, and regulatory compliance.

She emerged winner after topping a public poll.

The award was received on her behalf by First Officer Folake Marcetic, as she is currently overseas for professional training.

In a statement, Obasi described the honour as both a personal milestone and a testament to the discipline and dedication of her team.

She also encouraged aspiring female aviators, noting that “the sky is no longer the limit, but a workplace where competence is the only currency.”

United Nigeria Airlines congratulated her, describing her as a consummate professional and stating that the recognition reflects its commitment to safety, talent development, and inclusion in the aviation sector.
