Broadcasters in the South East region of Nigeria have been tasked to promote and ensure professionalism, as well as job satisfaction in workplaces.

The meeting in Enugu at the auspices of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON Zone E, also supported the ongoing plans by the national body to set up a professional regulatory framework known as the Nigeria Society of Broadcasters, for the industry.

Addressing the delegates, BON Zone E Chairman, Okechukwu Igbonekwu, noted that the South East region and indeed the Nigerian nation, are under serious security and economic threat, which is impacting broadcasting operations negatively.

On his part, the Guest Speaker, Uche Nworah, advocated for the training and retraining of practitioners in the industry. He also called for government bailout funds for the media organisations and insurance cover for the operatives, among the immediate measures to create a conducive environment for effective and efficient broadcast media practices.

Goodwill messages also came from the National President, Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, Haijia Saa Ibrahim represented by the Executive Secretary, Yemi Gbamgbose; Vice President of BON, Godfrey Ohuabunwa; and the former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Emeka Mbah.
