Do you know that improving cancer awareness campaigns, investing in cancer research and development, as well as strengthening healthcare infrastructure, including free screening, and treatment can reduce the spread of cancer and other infectious diseases in Nigeria?

This was what some critical stakeholders in cancer management said at a symposium organised to mark the 2025 world cancer day celebration in Abuja.

In Nigeria, the burden of cancer is alarmingly high especially among young people.

The meeting of critical stakeholders in cancer management and care is to understand the underlying factors contributing to the trend

Organisers said their major concern was the financial burden of cancer patients in accessing treatment despite government’s cancer health fund created for the purpose.

Speakers tasked both government and individuals to ensure that all Nigerians regardless of social, economic and health status, are supported and empowered to access quality healthcare services.
