Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is calling for stronger collaboration between security agencies and government to tackle banditry in the state.
He says it is the solemn responsibility of leaders to ensure citizens feel safe enough to “sleep with both eyes closed.”
The Governor made this known while receiving the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, who is on a visit to assess thy operational readiness and challenges faced by troops on the frontlines.
Governor Lawal lamented that Zamfara State has been trapped in a cycle of violence for over a decade. He reminded the visiting General that while the military holds the guns, true victory requires a “shared responsibility” between all levels of government and security agencies.
General Oluyede had commended Governor Lawal for his consistent support of military operations in the North-West.
Earlier, General Oluyede touched down at the Operation Fansan Yamma headquarters in Gusau for his first official operational visit, about six months after his appointment as Defence Chief in October 2025. He was previously, the Chief of Army Staff.
He was received by Theatre Commander, Major-General Warrah Idris, before inspecting a guard of honour.
After a closed-door strategic briefing with top brass, the Defence Chief addressed his troops, charging them to intensify the offensive against criminal elements.
With this renewed commitment to synergy, the people of Zamfara State are watching closely and hoping thst this latest high-level visit translates into immediate peace on the front lines.
