The Chadian government has pulled out its troops from the war against boko haram.
AFP quotes spokesman of the Chadian army, Colonel Azem Bermandoa as saying that none of the country’s soldiers remains in Nigeria after Friday’s withdrawal.
Chad had committed over one thousand troops to the insurgency war that was threatening its borders.
President Muhammadu Buhari on assumption of office in 2015 had activated the multinational joint taskforce involving military and intelligence from Chad, Niger, Cameroun, Benin republic and Nigeria to confront the boko haram menace.
The regional counter terrorism body had been closing in on the insurgents from various ends resulting in some of the successes recorded against boko haram in Nigeria.
The Chadian army spokesman said its troops that went to Nigeria to aid the war months ago have finished their mission and are returning home.
It is not clear what contingency arrangement are in place by the Nigerian authority to deal with the withdrawal. The spokesman for the multinational joint taskforce, Colonel Tomothy Antigha could not confirm the development.
Nigeria’s defence headquarters has yet to respond to the development.
