A devastating fire in the early hours of Saturday, razed an orphanage located in the Banyagi area of Bida Local Government Area of Niger State, North-Central Nigeria leaving children and other occupants homeless.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at about 1:00 a.m., completely engulfed the building, reducing it to ashes and destroying virtually all property belonging to the residents.
Many of the occupants are said to be children and families from vulnerable and low-income backgrounds, who have now lost their shelter and personal belongings.
Although no official casualty figures have been released, the incident has left the victims in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, including food, clothing, temporary accommodation, medical care, and other essential relief materials.
The Niger State Fire Service responded promptly to the emergency and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
However, rescue efforts were reportedly hampered when the fire service vehicle ran out of fuel during the operation, posing additional challenges to the firefighters.

The incident has once again brought to the fore concerns about emergency preparedness and the need for improved support and adequate resources for firefighting agencies to enhance their capacity to respond effectively to emergencies.
Residents and concerned citizens have appealed to the Niger State Government, humanitarian organisations, corporate bodies, and well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the affected victims by providing immediate relief and support.
