The Bayelsa State Government says it is laying a strong foundation to prepare children in the state for a future driven by technology, artificial intelligence, innovation and global competition.
Governor Douye Diri gave the assurance through the Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration at the Peace Park in Yenagoa.
It is a colourful atmosphere at the Peace Park in Yenagoa as children from various schools across Bayelsa State gather to celebrate the 2026 Children’s Day.
Delivering the Governor’s goodwill message, the Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, said every child matters and deserves access to quality education and equal opportunities to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
He said the state government is investing in science, technical and vocational education to equip children with the skills needed to compete globally and emerge as innovators and problem-solvers.
Stakeholders at the event described this year’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” as timely, calling for collective efforts toward protecting the future of children.
Some of the students also expressed appreciation to the state government for providing opportunities for learning, interaction and personal development.
Highlights of the celebration included colourful match-past parades by various schools, sporting activities, and the presentation of gifts and cash rewards to outstanding participants.
