A Kano State High Court has sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng Quarong to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Ummulkhulsum Sani.

ait.live recalls that Quarong stabbed Ummulkhulsum Sani during a relationship dispute on September 16, 2022.

To prove its case during trial, the prosecution counsel presented six witnesses, including the deceased’s biological mother, her sister, a neighbour, a Police Inspector, Police Officers from both the Dorayi Police Station, and the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), in Bompai, Kano.

The defendant, Frank Quangrong, however testified in his defence.

In his judgement on Tuesday, Justice Sunusi Ma’aji agreed with the evidences and testimonies presented before the Court by the prosecution counsel and held that it had proven its case beyond all reasonable doubts

The Court held that the defendant had intentionally killed the deceased by entering her home without invitation.

Justice Ma’aji stated that the defence counsel, Muhammad Dan’azumi, failed to establish a claim of self-defence, as the stabbing occurred on the neck extra-judicially.

Justice Sunusi Ma’aji therefore found the Chinese national, Frank Quangrong guilty of the offens and accordingly sentenced him to death by hanging, for the murder of Ummulkhulsum Sani, as provided in Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.
