Zamfara State has recorded one thousand, eighty-eight confirmed cases of cholera in the fourteen local government areas of the state, with Gusau, Anka, Talata Marafa, Bukkuyum, and Bakura local government areas being the most affected.

There are also forty suspected cases of diphtheria, with one confirmed case of the disease in the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Health, Aisha Anka, disclosed the figures to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, shortly after distributing drugs and medical consumables at Shagari Primary Healthcare in Birnin Ruwa, as part of a response effort to curtail the cholera outbreak.

She advised the residents to maintain a clean environment and sterilize their water before drinking.

The Commissioner also attended the mid-action review meeting with the Diphtheria National Rapid Response Team, where she commended partners and the National Centre for Disease Control, for their continued support.

She inspected the laboratory at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau and directed the immediate optimization of the laboratory to serve as the control and management center for diphtheria cases in the state.
