Civil Defence to exhibit gender sensitivity in recruitment, training

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions, the organization will henceforth, ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed in the recruitment, operations, management and training of it’s personnel to give women a voice.

Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi made this known in Calabar during an inter-disciplinary Colloquium on gender , peace and security in Africa, held at the University of Calabar.

Audi, who was represented by the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone L, Port Harcourt,James Bassey, said women are important in intelligence gathering and operations of any security outfit, a development he says NSCDC will give a chance from the entry point to prove that the organization is gender sensitive.

On her part, the Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, Prof Florence Obi said inclusion of women in decision and policy making body in the country will reduce Insecurity and build peace in Nigeria.

The event which held at the University of Calabar International Conference Center was to ensure that gender equity principles are incorporated into all policies and activities in Africa starting from the security and other government agencies in Nigeria.
