The National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria has called on the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution to reinstate the role of the Traditional Institutions in the ongoing review of the Constitution.

Leading a group of Traditional rulers on a courtesy visit to the House Committee, the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council who is also the Etsu Nupe, Brig-General Yahaya Abubakar called on the Constitution Review Committee to reinstate the role of the traditional institutions in the constitution.

He explained that the 1999 Constitution should accommodate the role of Traditional Institutions with a view to giving the Institution a National relevance

He expressed worry over the growing spate of insecurity in many parts of the country and submitted that kidnappers and other bad elements terrorising the Nation would not have had a field day if the Native Authority system is still in place.

In his response, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase corroborated that the Country would not witness such a level of insecurity as it is today if traditional institutions were functioning adequately.

Wase, who is the Chairman on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, promised that the memorandum submitted by the National Council of Traditional Rulers would be treated expeditiously just as he added that the House is conscious of the platform of the Traditional Rulers because they play very crucial roles
in securing the Country and in keeping all united.

The Deputy Speaker promised that the House would do justice to the submissions expeditiously to create a level of peace and sanity in every part of the Country.
