The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s application seeking the final forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has been adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja to July 10, for Judgment.

Joyce Abdulmalik, who was scheduled to deliver judgment on Monday after parties adopted their final written addresses in May, postponed the ruling without stating a reason.

The EFCC is asking the court to order the permanent forfeiture of the assets to the Federal Government, arguing they are suspected proceeds of unlawful activities.

The commission maintains that the respondents failed to establish the legitimate source of the properties.

Counsel for Malami, however, urged the court to dismiss the application, contending that the anti-graft agency’s case is based on suspicion rather than admissible evidence.

The defence also argued that some of the properties were acquired before Malami held public office and therefore could not be linked to the allegations before the court.
