A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to nullify the ongoing recruitment exercise of 10,000 police officers by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu.
The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, however, ruled that it is the Police Service Commission, PSC, under the control of Inspector General of Police that is statutorily empowered to enlist officers into the force.
The judge, nonetheless, held that the plaintiff has failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt their claims and that the court cannot ascribe to the plaintiff power it does not have.
The PSC had approached the Federal High Court, asking it to stop the IGP from recruitment of 10, 000 police officers into the force as he lacks the autonomy to do so.
The Judge consequently dismissed the suit for lacking in merit.
