A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has granted bail on self-recognition to a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Abimbola Olawumi, who is facing charges of alleged cyberbullying, issuing death threats and assault against one Yemisi Joluwe.

Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun equally adjourned the matter until July 28 for further hearing after the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendant, Odunayo Ayokunle, welcomed the ruling, thanking the Court for granting the bail application.

He assured the Court that his client would diligently face trial.

Ayokunle has however alleged that Olawumi was abducted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while attending Court over a separate matter arising from the APC governorship primaries in Ekiti State.

Responding, the complainant, Yemisi Joluwe, alleged that the defendant had repeatedly blackmailed her and threatened her life as well as the lives of her staff.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Government has distanced itself from the arrest and prosecution of Olawumi.

In a statement signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata (SAN), the government maintained that it had no involvement in the defendant’s arrest or prosecution.
