Former Deputy President of Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu

Federal High Court Abuja, has ordered the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, to release Certified True Copy of the biodata information of David Ukpo, to the Attorney-General of the Federation for onward submission to the Government of the United Kingdom.

Justice Inyang Ekwo had on July 1, ordered NIMC, Immigration Service, IBTC Bank, United Bank of Africa and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System to release the official details and documents of David Ukpo to Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice in an alleged organ harvest case in the United Kingdom.

The new order was made following NIMC’s refusal to release the said document to lawyers of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, who are currently held in the United Kingdom.

Counsel to NIMC, Muazu Mohammed says it is against the Commission’s laws to give out a citizen’s personal information due to its confidentiality and as such needs to supply the Attorney-General of the Federation such documents to present to the London court.

The documents are needed to facilitate criminal investigation to establish the innocence of the applicant in respect to the age of David in the criminal charge before Uxbridge Magistrate Court in United Kingdom.

The trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo while ruling on the application gave an order for an immediate release of the said documents.

The court granted the application of Ekweremadu and his wife on grounds that the respondents failed to show up to oppose the request of the applicants.

Ekweremadu and his wife were, remanded in UK police custody, after they were brought before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy to facilitate the travel of Ukpo, alleged to be a minor, for organ harvesting.
