Federal High Court Abuja has ordered the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to appear before it and show cause why he has delayed or refused to swear-in eight Judges-designate of the Edo State High Court.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order following a motion exparte filed by Adaze Emwanta, seeking that the Governor explain the delay in the swearing-in, since the justices were appointed.
The Judges were recommended for appointment as High Court Judges by the National Judicial Council since June 2023, which prompted the suit instituted against the Governor of Edo State, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State and National Judicial Council, NJC.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu after hearing the application and submission of counsel in the matter, ordered that the respondents and their assigned agents, to show cause why there is a prolonged delay to swear-in the eight judicial officers-designate recommended as Judges of the Edo State High Court.
The Court subsequently adjourned the matter to January 22, 2024.
