The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP says it has recorded 5 Coronavirus deaths among its members with hundreds more testing positive due to the neglect of senior citizens both by the federal and state governments

This was confirmed in Abuja by the Secretary of the Union, Actor Zal, who lamented that both the federal and state governments have continued to pay little or no attention to the health of retirees, in spite of evidence that the Covid-19 pandemic affects older people more.

Beyond the distribution of palliatives, the senior citizens pleaded with the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, to prevail on the federal and state governments to urgently pay-up pension arrears to mitigate their sufferings.

The Union said it has been using its savings to distribute palliatives to the more vulnerable members across the country
