Over 5,000 women and youths from rural Communities in Cross River State are to benefit from the 1,400 bags of rice allotted by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to cushion the effect of the second wave of covid-19.
The distribution of the palliatives which was under the supervision of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, also captured Physically challenged and people living with Disabilities as part of the beneficiaries.
Coordinator of distribution in Cross River State, Orok Duke, while speaking with newsmen in Calabar, explained that the agency is using ward to ward, social register and data information of rural population in the distribution of the palliatives.
Duke, explained that the gesture was part of social safety net of the Federal Government aimed at cushioning the effect of covid-19 pandemic in Cross River State
Some of the beneficiaries, who said the intervention came at a time when there is harsh economic condition as a result of the pandemic, commended the federal and the State Government for remembering them at a critical time of the year.

This is the first time in 22 years of creation of the interventionist agency that women, youths and physically challenge living in the rural Communities in Cross River State will be remembered in the scheme of things.
